Sunday rides are one of the mainstays of the One &
All Cycling Club. These rides are designed to cater
for as many different abilities as possible from complete
novice through to those training for road races and
time trials.
The structure of a Sunday ride starts with cyclists
meeting up at 9am at the Bissoe Cycle Centre near Devoran.
Club ride guides are provided to divide cyclists into
groups of different abilities so that everybody cycles
with people similar to themselves.
Generally there are 4 or 5 groups on a Sunday with
about 10 to 12 riders in each group. There is a special
group for young riders under the age of 14 which is
often taken on a traffic free private road close to
Bissoe. This is designed to give young riders core bike
handling skills to make them safe when they progress
to going out on the road.
The groups depart from Bissoe at 10 minute intervals
starting at 0910hrs for the fast group.
Safety on the road is of paramount importance. The
rides guides are experienced cyclists who aim to keep
everybody safe whilst enjoying a challenging ride.
Ride guides warn of, hazards ahead, change of speed,
change of direction, potholes, manhole covers, parked
and approaching vehicles along with pedestrians, dog
walkers and horse riders. Warnings are given verbally
and by pointing and given in plenty of time.
The duration of Sunday rides is between 1 and 3 hours
depending on which group you are in. At the end of the
ride, all the cyclists tend to come back to Bissoe where
we drink gallons of coffee and eat loads of cake!
Have a look at our Facebook
page where there are often lots of comments from
cyclists about the good times they had on Sunday rides.
